Michael Philip was born and raised in Hollywood, California. The grandson of Producer and President of Columbia Pictures, Mike Frankovich (Bob, Carol, Ted and Alice and The Shootist) and son of Academy award-winning film editor, Carl Kress (The Towering Inferno), Philip has had an insider's view to the workings of Hollywood.

He spent the first 10 years in the business honing his skills as an assistant editor working on such films as Stroker Ace, Cannonball Run II, Deepstar Six, & Bloodsport. In 1994, after supervising post on the production of Arizona Dream, (Johnny Depp) directed by Emir Kusturica, he co-founded Nichol Moon Entertainment.

During his five-year tenure, Nichol Moon was associated with numerous films, including Swingers, directed by Doug Liman and Doom Generation, directed by Greg Arakki. Since founding Nichol Moon, Philip has produced and edited The Waiting Game, The Beatnicks, and Who Is Killing The Meter Maids? In addition, he helped to develop, package and produce The Curve (Keri Russell) directed by Dan Rosen (1998) Sundance Film Festival), and co-produced Lip Service, written and directed by Shawn Schepps (Drumline) In 2001 he co-produced Who is Cletis Tout? (Tim Allen, Christian Slater) directed by Chris Ver Weil and in 2002 and The Movie Hero (Jeremy Sisto, Peter Stormare) (Audience Award/2003 Austin FilmFestival).

In 2004, Philip produced and directed the feature film Drop Dead Sexy, (Jason Lee and Crispin Glover) which premiered in the SXSW film festival 2005 and was purchased by Lions Gate films. From 2005 Michael was appointed Head of Production at several studios in Europe where he implemented a western-style infrastructure.

Most notably Kentarous Studios in Bucharest and Raleigh Film Studios in Budapest. In 2007, Michael co-founded Film Tiger, a vehicle to continue his vision of independently produced films. FilmTiger developed and produced Timber Falls, theatrically released in 2009, Night Train (Danny Glover, Steve Zahn) in 2010, and Stag Night in 2011.

In 2014, Michael wrote and produced, Battledrone, a stylized action film released by Netflix in 2018. And in 2017, Michael produced and directed Frat Pack, an indie-comedy starring Kevin Farley and Tommy Davidson.

In 2018, Philip produced Becoming, a SciFi thriller starring Toby Kebbell and Jason Patric and Disturbing the Peace, an action film starring Guy Pearce. In 2019, Philip co founded CR8IV DNA with Jason Moring while producing Doorman, starring Ruby Rose and Jean Reno.

For 2020, Philip is in the works on Snowblind, with Karl Urban, Escape the Field and Ruthless, the first in an action slate of 5 films.
